Ole Gunnar Solskjær is currently under a lot of pressure at Manchester United, due to his team’s horrible start to the season.
United currently sit 15th on the Premier League table and their recent form warrants that position.
It is fair to say that United’s form has been very up and down this season. From winning every away game in the Premier League to being without a win at Old Trafford in the league.
Their Champions League form has been a little bit better with wins over Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig but having recently lost to Istanbul Basakehir in the week, Ole looks to be on the verge of being sacked.
It is said in no uncertain terms that the manager of Manchester United is always under huge pressure to perform and show good results. The United fans always demand the best from their team and when their team fails to perform, they become frustrated and this subsequently puts pressure on the manager.
With United’s poor home form and start to this season is Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s job in jeopardy already? Although he is still the Manchester United boss, there are many rumours making the rounds that he soon won’t be and will be sacked by Ed Woodward and the Manchester United board.
If Solskjær were to be sacked by United who would replace him? Many news outlets and pundits believe that the obvious replacement would be the ex-Tottenham Hotspurs’ manager, Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine was sacked by Spurs in November of 2019 and has been without a job since.
Pochettino took Spurs from a midtable side to Premier League title contenders and Champions League finalists in 2019. He did this all with never really being a big spender in the transfer market and this shows that he is an elite-level coach and maybe just the man to rescue Manchester United’s season.
Pochettino would also bring a sense of defensive security that the United side has been lacking for quite some time now. He made Spurs into one of the most hard-to-beat sides in the league, with Spurs having the best defensive record in the Premier League in the 2016/17 season.
What makes this defensive record even more impressive is the fact that his side still played open, expansive and attractive football.
Another thing that Pochettino did amazingly well at Spurs was nurture young talent into world-class players in the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dele Alli. It is no secret that Manchester United have a group of very talented young players, in the likes of Mason Greenwood, Brandon Williams and Axel Tuanzebe.
So, there is no doubt that Pochettino would have a great impact on all the United youngsters. Pochettino also never really relied on picking up top talent from the transfer market from his time at Spurs due to his ability to get the most out of all his players.
So how long will Solskjær last as the Manchester United boss? And if he were to be sacked will the Red Devils replace him with Pochettino or someone else?
