Sources close to Man Utd Central claim that Alex Telles’ move to Old Trafford was heavily influenced by fan favourite Bruno Fernandes.
Signing on Deadline Day, the 27-year-old told the club’s official website: “To join a club with the prestige of Manchester United is a huge honour. You have to work hard to get to this moment in your career and now I am coming to this club, I can promise that I will give everything in my heart to be a success here.
“I won many trophies at FC Porto and I want to continue that at United. The manager has a clear plan and direction for this team and I can’t wait to pull on the famous shirt.”
Sources close to Man Utd Central claim that Telles was impressed with the impact that Bruno Fernandes made at Old Trafford after switching from Sporting Lisbon in January and was inspired to leave a similar mark at Old Trafford.
The Brazilian left-back spoke with Fernandes on the phone before he put pen to paper on a four-year contract and was left convinced that the best way to progress his career was to leave Portugal and join Manchester United.
He is yet to make his debut for the Red Devils and there is huge excitement from supporters over the impact he could have in defence, with Luke Shaw not quite good enough to carry United forward.
When he signed for the club, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “First and foremost, I welcome Alex to United. He is a player we have been tracking for some time and his performances over the past few years are exactly what we are looking for. He is a fighter and a winner and will add real determination and competition to the squad.
“Alex has the qualities, both as a player and as a person, that we want here at Manchester United.”
