Manchester United secured a spot in the fourth round of the EFL Cup yesterday evening with a 3-0 win against Luton Town.
United fielded a rotated lineup which included new signing Donny Van de Beek getting his first start for the club.
Goals from a Juan Mata penalty and second-half substitutes Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood were enough to see off the hosts.
There was nothing spectacular about the performance, but Solskjaer will take some positives from the win as United look to build momentum for the season.
Here are the player ratings from the victory.
Starters
Dean Henderson 8.5/10
The Englishman didn’t have much to do on his first start since his return from Sheffield United, but when called upon he pulled off a stunning save at his near post to keep out the hosts.

The save came at a crucial point in the game, and young Henderson will be happy with the clean sheet as he makes a push to become Manchester United’s number one.
Brandon Williams 7/10
A decent game from the young full-back overall. Struggled to affect the game from United’s left, but was a presence throughout. Won the penalty which Mata converted.
Harry Maguire 7/10
Decent overall but looked suspect on some occasions. Brought the ball out of the back well showed some good distribution.
Eric Bailly 9/10

100% tackles won
82% pass accuracy
50% aerials won

A man of the match performance from the Ivorian international. Excellent on the ball and made several key defensive stops, including a brilliant clearance off the line to keep out Luton after Henderson’s save.
Aaron Wan Bisakka 8/10
A very good game on Manchester United’s right for the full-back. Was lively throughout and showed some excellent touches.
Nemanja Matic 7/10
A steady performance in midfield for the Serb. Demonstrated his composure on several occasions and should always start when fit.
Fred 7/10
The Brazillian looked lively in midfield for the Red Devils and showed appropriate impetus and accuracy with his passing.
Donny Van de Beek 7.5/10

A good full debut for the young Dutchman. He showed his intelligence and great movement on several occasions and was awarded the Man of the match award post-game.
Jesse Lingard 7/10
A bright performance from the Englishman. Played the full 90 minutes and looked lively as he roamed the pitch trying to affect the game.
Juan Mata 8/10
An impressive game for the little Spaniard. Was involved in almost everything good United did going forward. Dispatched his penalty in a confident manner (Watch out Bruno!) and created several chances in a solid performance.
Odion Ighalo 5/10
The novelty seems to have worn off and cold reality has set in now, Odion Ighalo is not good enough for Manchester United.
Subs
Marcus Rashford 7.5/10
Looked bright when he came on and took his goal brilliantly to finish off a sweeping counter-attack for the visitors.
Mason Greenwood 8/10
Scored and assisted coming off the bench. Had only eight touches of the ball, but had two very decisive ones.
