With United set for serious activity in the upcoming transfer window, we assess the top five Manchester United midfield transfer options assigning a score out of five based on likelihood and validity.
Jack Grealish – Aston Villa – 4.3
United are interested in Grealish whose quality on the ball is brilliant with the way he runs things in the middle of the park for Aston Villa as everything involving the side’s attack goes through the Englishman.
The talismanic Englishman can play across the midfield and the flanks, meaning should any of the Red Devils’ key players suffer any injuries, he would provide more than adequate cover.
Although Villa’s current Premier League campaign is a major criterion in the transfer saga, United would, however, be looking to bow to the £80m tag slashed on the English man.
Kai Havertz – Bayer Leverkusen – 3.7
United have reportedly shifted focus to Havertz who has starred for the German side this season.
The 20-year-old German who is a suburb midfielder, technically gifted with an amazing eye for goals.
Havertz would bring United an instant alternative to Bruno Fernandes, allowing the Portuguese star to rest, while Havertz’s ability to play out wide can see them both fit in the same team.
With Chelsea showing serious competition as Abrahamovic is said to have given a green light for the signing of the No. 10 for a club-record fee.
United don’t seem a likely destination for the star if things are not snapped up soon.
Jude Bellingham – Birmingham – 3.0
The Stourbridge-born youngster has already been given a tour of the Manchester United training ground, as he scopes out a potential move.
Owing to the 4-2-3-1 system Solskjaer has traditionally adopted in his reign, Bellingham would likely be used in attacking-midfield.
With Bruno Fernandes claiming the pivot role, Bellingham would be left with a space on the bench as he isnt known for versatility.
The young star is no current fix to the Red Devils.
Dortmund has also shown interest in the 16year old, as he favours a move to the German side ahead of a star-studded United.
Donny Van De Beek – Ajax – 2.5
The young Dutchman emerged as a potential summer transfer target with Ajax’s CEO Edwin van der Sar even admitting publicly to their interest.
United’s need for some midfield depth is well known but it could be argued they need to add steel and not creativity.
Nonetheless, it appears as though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for more of a playmaker type but has other players higher up his wishlist.
United are reportedly not interested in the Ajax’s star as claimed.
Corentin Tolisso – Bayern Munchen – 2.0
United are speculated to have started talks with the £31m star, as it is believed Tolisso isn’t happy on the bench at the Allianz Arena.
However, his agent has been quick to disclaim discussions with the Premier League Side.
Before Tolisso’s injury, he has been one of the mainstays and first names on the sheet at Bayern.
With United lacking top-class options at the centre of the park, it will be interesting to see just where he ends up in the summer if he leaves Bayern.
He could be a great signing for Manchester United and a real transfer bargain if a deal is done for the right price.
